Mental health is something we all need to focus on – for ourselves, family, friends and work colleagues. Fortunately, many organisations provide resources with tips and strategies to help deal with mental health issues.
One way to positively impact our mental health and wellbeing that is often overlooked is…celebrating!
We naturally think to celebrate birthdays and milestones but sometimes we get so caught up in the “busyness” of life that we forget to acknowledge the little wins we have along the way. And whilst it might not seem like a big deal, celebrating increases motivation and can help lift our spirits when life feels mundane and boring.
Think about the “little” things (that are often not-so-little by the way!) worth celebrating. Reaching an exercise goal, completing a short course or receiving an award for ongoing volunteer work. Financially, it might be buying your first property or paying off a large amount of debt. For business owners it could be reaching a certain number of clients or sales.
The celebration doesn’t have to be over the top. In fact, it might be as simple as calling a friend or family member to tell them your news or catching up for a drink with work colleagues to acknowledge the occasion.
Either way, sharing your success is uplifting and positively impacts your mindset.
Whatever your journey looks like, stop every now and then and acknowledge how far you have come. The feelings of pride and happiness evoked by achievement and progress will help you stay focused on the road ahead.
